The year was 2006. My daughter was first chair clarinet in the High School band. As she was practicing in the backyard deck, it stroke me funny that I could hear the melody coming out of the instrument, but I couldn't see it. I thought to myself "Well, there's a moment to record." I did a quick color pencil sketch and the next morning I painted this piece. The Clarinet Player.
